GLITCH’S VERDICT

A masterclass in atmosphere and storytelling that proves great art direction ages better than cutting-edge graphics ever will.

PROS

  • The 2016 remaster looks stunning – art style holds up beautifully even today.
  • Story and environment stay unique and engaging, with exploration that rewards finding secrets and upgrades.
  • Creepy atmosphere nails it – splicers whispering, banging walls, shadows darting away when you round corners.
  • Combat stays fun with the plasmids and guns combo keeping encounters fresh.
  • Audio logs pull you deeper into the lore and keep the story moving forward.

CONS

  • Controls aren’t standard modern FPS layout – takes time to adjust.

BOTTOM LINE

Buy if: You want a story-driven FPS with incredible atmosphere and a world that still feels unique nearly 20 years later.

Skip if: You absolutely can’t handle non-standard controls. (But seriously, just play it.)
